A-Z Blog: F is for Fluorite

Fluorite (also called fluorspar) is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the halide minerals. It crystallizes in isometric cubic habit, although octahedral and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon. The mineral was first discussed in print in a 1530 work about the nature of metals. In 1852, fluorite gave its name to the phenomenon of fluorescence, which is prominent in fluorites from certain locations, due to certain impurities in the crystal. Fluorite has been found in South Africa, Mexico, the United Kingdom, China, Mongolia, Russia, Spain, Namibia, Canada, Illinois, and Vermont.

Fluorite is prized as a metaphysical tool and is a highly protective and stabilizing stone, useful for grounding and harmonizing spiritual energy. It enhances and amplifies energy and when working with the upper Chakras, Fluorite increases intuitive abilities, links the human mind to universal consciousness, and develops connection to Spirit. Fluorite can also clear the aura of mucky energies. Fluorite absorbs negative energies from the environment and is effective in clearing the chakras and the aura. Fluorite can also shield the user from psychic manipulation. Fluorite strengthens bones and teeth and ameliorates the pain associated with arthritis. Fluorite is also used to enhance mental functions by balancing the chemistry in the brain.
