On Earth (Looking Beyond)

A lengthy conversation with a friend and colleague today yielded a renewed perspective. We talked about why we are here on this earth and what we are supposed to learn and do. I was once again prompted to ask why people are so distracted by power, money, competition, jealousy and hate. It's all about fear...we know that. Fear is what drives us to make decisions that distract us from our purpose, our path and the things we want and need to do with and in our lives.

Power makes us think we can control people and the things around us, but no power can protect us from the seemingly random things that happen in life or from the end of life. No amount of money or power will change the inevitable and in the process of chasing financial wealth and position, we divert from a path that will help us explore our lives, our love, compassion and spirituality. Jealousy and hate are also caused by fear. If 'I' am not good enough or better than others, if someone doesn't choose me over all else, then that makes me unimportant. Belief in oneself and in our value and goodness is paramount if we are going to live a fulfilling life - one that is full to the brim with learning, love and experiences.

Fear of others and of things that are different also drives us away from a balanced life. If someone else believes in their way of life or religion and that is different from ours, we begin to doubt whether we are 'right' - because we think there is only ONE right way or belief. The ability to accept and understand others is enriching and nurturing and will help us to see that we are all connected.Perspective! Belief in self and in others! A real, deep understanding of why we are here! These are things we should embrace. Instead of chasing organized, dictated belief systems; instead of vying for position and power or judging the lives and beliefs of others: focus on the moment, on your life and your purpose. Turn your eyes inward and get to know yourself. Question what you want, what you are and then make your decisions based on integrity, compassion, honesty and a long view of life that takes you beyond the grave (not to the pearly gates but to a non-physical, infinite connection with others and with a spirit and divinity that IS within and around all of us, leading us toward a universal light that is not man, a father-like image of GOD or like anything we can or will know in this life.

Remove these concepts and words from your vocabulary and your thought processes: Power, Money, Jealousy, Ownership, Boundaries, Rules, Hate, Dislike, Judgement, Competition. Be, do and think what you want to be and what you want this world to be, and you will be more balanced and content in this life and after.
